QEC submits 2018-2019 General Rate Application

IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 9, 2017) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has submitted a General Rate Application (GRA) to the Minister responsible for QEC to change the electricity rates effective April 1, 2018. QEC’s last rate adjustment was applied on May 1, 2014.

The application proposes a 7.6% average rate increase to meet QEC’s 2018-2019 revenue needs. Due to the different classes of customers and subsidy programs available to Nunavummiut, the impact of the new electricity rates on customers’ bills will vary.

General Rate Application

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has submitted a General Rate Application (GRA) requesting changes to electricity rates, effective April 1, 2025. Submitted to the Minister responsible for QEC, this application will be reviewed with input from the territory's Utility Rates Review Council (URRC).

The proposal seeks rate increases to meet QEC’s revenue requirement for 2025–2026. Due to differences in customer classifications and subsidy programs available to Nunavummiut, the impact on individual electricity bills will vary.

Planned Power Outage in Pangnirtung Postponed to November 8

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Pangnirtung that the planned power outage for Saturday, November 4 from 12:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. has been postponed to Wednesday, November 8 from 12:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.

This outage is required to perform a preventative maintenance inspection of the new power plant system.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during this time.
