Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform Nunavummiut that a fuel spill occurred at the Grise Fiord power plant. The incident was discovered at 2 a.m. on March 16, 2018, and immediate environmental remediation measures were conducted. Approximately 1000 litres of fuel spilled inside the power plant from a storage tank and spread outside through the power plant door. The cause of the spill is currently being investigated.
IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 16, 2018) – Qulliq Energy Corporation’s (QEC) major project permit application to build a replacement power plant in Kugluktuk has been approved by the Minister Responsible for QEC.
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the community of Kugluktuk that there will be planned intermittent power outages from Saturday, March 17, to Monday, March 19. The duration of the power outages may vary from five minutes to an hour and will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
These power outages are required to perform maintenance and upgrades to the distribution system and improve reliability.
QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during this time.

As an Assistant Operator, you will be expected to operate and monitor the diesel powerhouse and associated systems to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective electrical service to Qulliq Energy customers in the community, and to assume an acting role as Plant Superintendent during absences or as required.
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Plant Superintendent is responsible for maintaining safe and continuous power generation and distribution, integrating production and maintenance requirements of all mechanical and electrical equipment under his/her jurisdiction. The position is also responsible for operating and monitoring the diesel powerhouse and associated systems to provide safe, reliable electrical service to Qulliq Energy customers in the community in a cost effective manner.

Nunavummiut students enrolled in a post-secondary education program for the September 2018 semester are eligible to apply. The successful candidate will be chosen based on a strong academic record and outstanding community involvement.
Applications for the $5000 scholarship will be accepted until June 30, 2018.
