QEC’s Standby Power Rate Application

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has submitted an application requesting the approval
to create a new standby power rate. The application has been submitted to the Minister responsible for QEC and will be reviewed with input from the territory's Utility Rates Review Council (URRC).

The proposed rate is solely charged to commercial customers who opt to generate
their own electricity but rely on QEC to be on standby for backup power when their
self-generation system is not operating.

Interim Electricity Rates effective April 1, 2025 - General Rate Application

The Utility Rates Review Council (URRC) has authorized Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) to implement interim electricity rates, effective April 1, 2025. 

QEC submitted a General Rate Application (GRA) to the Minister responsible on November 29, 2024, requesting rate increases to meet the utility’s revenue needs for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

Planned Partial-Community Outage in Rankin Inlet December 21, 2024

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Rankin Inlet that a planned partial-community power outage on Saturday, December 21, 2024, is required to disconnect equipment from a generator safely.

This planned power outage is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It will affect customers near the QEC Powerhouse, Nanuq Lodge, Quick Stop, and Red Top Variety, as highlighted in yellow on the map below.

QEC's General Rate Application

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has submitted a General Rate Application (GRA) requesting changes to electricity rates, effective April 1, 2025. Submitted to the Minister responsible for QEC, this application will be reviewed with input from the territory's Utility Rates Review Council (URRC).

The proposal seeks rate increases to meet QEC’s revenue requirement for 2025–2026. Due to differences in customer classifications and subsidy programs available to Nunavummiut, the impact on individual electricity bills will vary. Key elements of the application include:

Nov. 23-24: Community-Wide Power Outages in Sanikiluaq

To support ongoing upgrades to community infrastructure, Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to notify the residents of Sanikiluaq that there will be two planned community-wide power outages scheduled for the following dates:

  • Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

These planned outages will impact all customers and are necessary to complete crucial system and equipment upgrades.

November 23: Planned Partial-Community Outage in Igloolik

Date: Saturday, November 23, 2024

Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) will be performing maintenance on the generator in Igloolik. This work requires a partial outage throughout the day, rotating feeders every hour.

What this means for you:

Igloolik has three feeders, so customers will experience a one-hour outage in their area every two hours for the duration of the maintenance.
