IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 10, 2021) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has awarded the 2021 Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship to Zan Tao of Iqaluit. Ms. Tao is starting her post-secondary education in the Bachelor of Science in Health Studies program at University of Waterloo.

“In light of a global pandemic, Ms. Tao has courageously chosen a challenging and important career path,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for QEC. “I am proud to award the scholarship to a deserving candidate who continues to help Nunavummiut during unprecedented times.”

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Baker Lake that there will be a planned power outage on Saturday, September 11, from 7 to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This outage is required to connect the new subdivision to the distribution system.

IQALUIT, Nunavut (August 18, 2021) – The Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has approved power plant replacement projects in Cambridge Bay, Gjoa Haven and Igloolik, and a generator set replacement in the Iqaluit power plant. The corporation submitted applications for the projects on March 3, 2021.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Gjoa Haven that there will be a planned community-wide power outage on Wednesday, August 18, from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m.

This outage is required to safely perform upgrades to the power generation system.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Grise Fiord that the corporation will continue decommissioning the old power plant from July 20 to August 20, 2021. The affected area is marked in red on the map below.

Decommissioning the old power plant requires the use of heavy equipment to move items for disposal. While safety will be monitored on site, community members are asked to exercise caution around the area where decommissioning work is being completed.
