Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Arviat that there will be a planned power outage on Saturday, May 14, from 7 to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This power outage is required to safely connect a new commercial customer to the distribution system.

QEC thanks residents for their understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is accepting applications for the corporation’s annual Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship.

The application deadline for the annual $5000 scholarship is June 30, 2022.

Nunavummiut students enrolled in a post-secondary education program for the September 2022 semester are eligible to apply. The successful candidate will be chosen based on a strong academic record and outstanding community involvement.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is encouraging the public to provide feedback on the corporation’s General Rate Application (GRA). The corporation submitted the application to the Minister responsible for QEC to change electricity rates effective October 1, 2022.

The application seeks approval on a shift from the current community-based rate structure to a territory-wide electricity rate that is more equitable for customers. Under this structure, all customers of the same type would pay the same electricity rate regardless of where they are located in Nunavut.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is currently accepting applications for the QEC Board of Directors. The corporation is looking for dedicated members with the vision, passion, and leadership skills to make a positive contribution to QEC.

Special consideration will be given to applicants with financial designations or experience in the energy industry. Backgrounds in human resources, engineering, and legal will also be considered an asset. Successful candidates will be appointed for three-year terms.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Whale Cove that there will be community wide power outages on Saturday, February 26, and Sunday, February 27, from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. local time.

These outages are required to safely connect a new generator at the power plant.

QEC will estimate monthly billing for customers in Cambridge Bay, Rankin Inlet, Baker Lake, Qikiqtarjuaq and Arviat for the December 1 to 31 billing period. Meter reads will not be conducted to protect the well-being of QEC staff and residents while the corporation continues to safely provide a critical service.

Estimated meter reads are calculated by using the previous month’s consumption. The estimate may be higher or lower than actual energy usage, but the difference will be corrected with the next manual meter read.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is encouraging the public to provide feedback on the corporation’s proposed power plant replacement projects in Kugaaruk and Chesterfield Inlet.  

The corporation has applied to the Minister responsible for QEC to approve these major projects. Nunavut’s Utility Rates Review Council, an independent advisory body, will review public feedback and provide advice on the application to the Minister responsible for QEC.

IQALUIT, Nunavut (December 24, 2021) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has completed the construction and testing of a new power plant in Arctic Bay. The capital project was completed ahead of schedule and is now commissioned and operational.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to remind Nunavummiut to exercise caution around power poles and power lines, especially while operating a motor vehicle (including ATVs and snow machines). Please remember the following to avoid unplanned power outages, serious injury, or death:
