FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 5, 2017 – Iqaluit, NU – – A tentative agreement was reached between the Nunavut Employees Union (NEU) and Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) on behalf of more than 160 unionized employees who work to provide electricity to customers throughout Nunavut.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Cambridge Bay that the planned power outage on Saturday, July 1 has been cancelled.

The planned outage for Sunday, July 2 is going ahead. The affected area is highlighted on the attached map.

The outage is required to continue the installation of a new feeder or distribution line in the community.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during this time.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Cambridge Bay that there will be a planned power outage in a section of the community on June 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map attached.

This outage is required to perform upgrades and maintenance to the distribution system.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during this time.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to remind Nunavummiut to follow these steps to avoid serious injuries or death and to stay safe around power plants and power lines:

Stay away from power plants. Stay away from broken or fallen power lines. Never fly a kite near overhead power lines or power plants. Choose a flying site in an open space away from roads and airport runways.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the community of Pangnirtung that there will be a planned power outage on Saturday, June 10 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.


This outage is required to perform upgrades and maintenance to the distribution system.

QEC will inform customers in advance when a power outage is planned in their community through the radio, social media, and email.


To ensure that customers receive a safe and reliable electrical supply, the QEC team takes advantage of better weather conditions at this time of year to repair damaged power lines and poles and perform upgrades and maintenance to the overall electrical system.

Qulliq Energy Corporation is accepting applications for the corporation’s annual Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship.

Nunavummiut students enrolled in a post-secondary education program for the September 2017 semester are eligible to apply. The successful candidate will be chosen based on a strong academic record and outstanding community involvement.

Applications for the $5000 scholarship will be accepted until June 30, 2017.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Arctic Bay that there will be a planned power outage in a section of the community on Sunday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the attached map.

This outage is required to perform maintenance to the distribution system.

IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 13, 2017) – The Honourable Johnny Mike, Minister responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) today announced the appointment of Nicole Jauvin to the Board of Directors of QEC, effective March 23, 2017.

Minister Mike reappointed Elijah Evaluarjuk to the board on January 7, 2017 for a second three-year term. Mr. Evaluarjuk was also appointed Chairperson of the Board having previously served as the Interim Chairperson from June 2016.

IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 3, 2017) –Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) officials joined local dignitaries and community members today to celebrate the successful commissioning of the new Pangnirtung power plant. The original power plant, which was built in 1971, was destroyed by fire in April 2015.
