IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 3, 2024) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied for a fuel rider of 3.70 cents per kilowatt hour for the period of April 1 to September 30, 2024. The application was submitted to the Honourable John Main, Minister responsible for QEC, who will seek recommendations from the territory’s Utility Rates Review Council.
“The requested fuel rider is related to the increase in territorial fuel prices announced in January,” said Mr. Main.
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to advise residents of Rankin Inlet to conserve power for the next two weeks. Emergency repairs are being made to the generator engines and we are asking for the community’s assistance to ensure a reliable power supply during this period.
Effective energy conservation includes lowering thermostats to 20 degrees C and only using high-energy appliances (stoves, ovens, washers and dryers) after 7p.m.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to advise the residents of Iqaluit that a large generator is required to be transported from the Iqaluit Deep Sea Port to the QEC Power Plant.
The safe transport of the generator is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, from 9:00pm to Thursday October 26, 6:00am, local time.
This mobilization will impede traffic in the highlighted areas of the road map below. Vehicles may need to use an alternative route during this time.

With local elections underway, Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to remind Nunavummiut to avoid attaching posters or notices to power poles. Posters on power poles impedes climbing space, and the staples or tacks that are left on the pole are a safety concern for technical crews.
QEC also asks Nunavummiut continue to exercise caution around power poles throughout the winter season. Please remember the following to avoid unplanned power outages, severe injury, or death:
IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 20, 2023) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied for an adjustment to the 2022-23 GRA base energy rates to incorporate higher fuel prices. The application was submitted to the Minister responsible for QEC, who will seek recommendations from the territory’s Utility Rates Review Council.
“This requested adjustment is related to the continuous increases in territorial fuel prices since the last QEC general Rate application,” said Joelie Kaernerk, Minister responsible for QEC.
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there will be two planned power outages on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
The first outage is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m and will affect customers in the Plateau, Sivumugiaq Street (Federal Road), Four Corners, Airport, North 40 and West 40 areas, as highlighted in yellow on Map 1 below.
The second outage is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will affect customers in the Baffin Correctional Centre, Airport and Softball Diamond area, as highlighted in yellow on Map 2 below.
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Naujaat that there will be a planned community-wide power outage on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 8:00am to 12:00pm, local time.
This power outage is required to safely perform maintenance operations that will improve overall reliability.

Energy Purchase Agreement Signed Between Qulliq Energy Corporation and Nunavut Nukkiksautiit Corporation for Nunavut’s First Community-Led, Inuit-Owned Renewable Energy Project
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Baker Lake that there will be planned power outages on Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon (local time). The affected areas for each of the planned outages are highlighted in yellow on the maps below.
The outage on Saturday, August 12 is required to install new switches for improved overall reliability.
The outage on Sunday, August 13 is required to safely replace a broken pole.
