Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Sanikiluaq that there will be a planned power outage on Saturday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This power outage will affect the entire community and is required to connect a new generation unit to the grid.

Iqaluit, Nunavut (March 3, 2023) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is announcing Tati Connelly-Clark of Rankin Inlet as the 2022 Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship recipient. She was selected for her passion for food security and community volunteering in Nunavut. Ms. Connelly-Clark is currently pursuing a Social Services Diploma at Nova Scotia Community College. She plans to return to the territory and continue her work in community wellness.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has restored power to all customers in Sanirajak after an unexpected power outage today, November 3, at approximately 12:45 p.m. local time. The power outage was caused by equipment malfunction that produced black smoke from the exhaust system. There was no fire in the power plant. This power outage was not related to the outages that took place last week.

Nunavut-wide (November 1, 2022) – Qulliq Energy Corporation is announcing new territory-wide electricity rates for its customers. The Honourable Craig Simailak, Minister responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation, approved the following new rates to come into effect on October 1, 2022:

The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below. This outage is required to safely complete the connection of a new construction site.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that the recent power outages in the city were caused by issues with equipment control devices in the power generation system. The issues took a significant amount of time to troubleshoot as they affected multiple generator sets. The corporation’s technical staff have since repaired and replaced any necessary equipment and tested the control system for reliability.

QEC thanks residents for their understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to remind Nunavummiut to stay safe by flying kites away from power lines.

There have been a number of reports of kites being entangled in power lines across the territory. Kite strings can conduct electricity and cause serious injury or death.

To avoid danger, please remember:

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Baker Lake that there will be a planned power outage on Sunday, September 18, 8 to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This outage is required to safely connect the corporation’s new head office building.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Cambridge Bay that there will be planned power outages on Saturday, September 10, and Sunday, September 11, from 7 to 11 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

These outages are required to safely replace damaged power poles and make upgrades to the distribution system to improve reliability.
